By Isma'eel Abba Tangalashi

DATE: Sunday, 3rd September, 2017
VENUE: Sani Abacha Stadium, K/Mata, Kano
CAPACITY: 16,000
TIME: 4:00pm

As we enter into the match day 37 fixtures in the Nigerian professional football League, NPFL, Kano Pillars will seek for a revenge as their host Northeastern side, El Kanemi warriors of Maiduguri, today,  at the lively Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.

The reverse of this fixture ended in a 1-0 victory for the Maiduguri landlords.

Pillars aren't on a good run of form after being knockout of the AITEO Cup by a lowly rated Yobe Desert Stars and Nasarawa United in the top flight fixtures in the spin of four days respectively.

Like Pillars, El Kanemi warriors are winless in their last two matches, a 3-2 defeat away to Lobi Stars was followed by a scary 1-1 home draw against relegation threaten Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

This fixture is like a death rubber game for both sides as non of them will have a chance to play in the continent next season considering the caliber of teams ahead of them couple with the points garnered by those teams. But one thing for sure is the rivalry involved in it in recent seasons.

MATCH HISTORY:
From 2015 to date, Kano Pillars and El Kanemi warriors played five games between them, out of those five fixtures, Pillars were able to win two and lose 3 to the Warriors.

This fixture produced an average of 1.2 goals per Match.

In all the fixtures played as of today in the Nigerian professional football League, Kano Pillars were able to score an average of 1.9 goals per match at home while El Kanemi Warriors manage a 0.5 away goal per away match.

Comparing the results both Kano Pillars and El Kanemi warriors obtained against the rest of the NPFL teams, Kano Pillars won 45 % of the games against  their opponents while El Kanemi Warriors won up to today 56 % of those games.

LAST FIVE MEETINGS:
2/4/2017: El-Kanemi Warriors FC 1-0 Kano Pillars

12/5/2016: El-Kanemi Warriors FC 2-0 Kano Pillars

21/9/2016: Kano Pillars 1-0 El-Kanemi Warriors FC

5/7/2015: Kano Pillars 1-0 El-Kanemi Warriors FC

1/11/2015: El-Kanemi Warriors FC 1 -0 Kano Pillars

LEAGUE POSITIONS OF BOTH SIDES:
In the 36 matches played so far, Kano Pillars are placed a distant 9th on the NPFL log with 51 points while El Kanemi warriors are two spots ahead of their host on the log with 53 points and placed 7th.

A win for the Sai Masu Gida side will help them leapfrog on the log and move a little bit ahead of El Kanemi warriors with 54 to 53 points. Whereas El Kanemi warriors win, they will not only be ahead of Pillars on the log but will definitely finish the season above the AHLY KILLERS.
