Kano Pillars talisman and vice Captain, Rabiu Ali was the hero of the day as he led the 'Sai Masu Gida' to their second Gold Cup title in two years after beating Lobi Stars of Markurdi 2-0 in a thrilling final in Ilorin on Friday.
Ali scored the decisive goal in the 33rd minute of the game to hand Coach Ibrahim Musa his first trophy as Kano Pillars Technical Adviser.
Both Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars were drawn together in group A alongside Rivers United, Remo Stars and Kwara United with the eventual finalists, finishing second and first respectively.
Pillars beat fellow Northern side, Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in the semi-finals courtesy of Ibrahim Alhassan's goal on Thursday while Lobi edged out Katsina United by the same margin through an Ayo Saka effort on Tuesday.
The former NPFL champions will continue preparation for the new season with yet another tournament this time around at their base Kano.
The tournament tagged 'Sharu Rabiu Inuwa 'Ahlan' pre-season tournament' is sponsored by the Kano State FA Chairman Sharu Rabiu Inuwa.
Enyimba, MFM FC, Yobe Desert Stars, Katsina United, Akwa United, Plateau United and five other clubs will compete for honors in the tournament that starts from 30th November.
Pillars are also billed to be part of the League Management Company's Invitational coming up from the 11-17th of December in Kano.
