KANO PILLARS VS NASARAWA UNITED: ROAD TO THE 2017/2018 NPFL TITLE

By Isma'eel Abba Tangalashi a.k.a TangaSports

COMPETITION: Nigeria Professional Football League

VENUE: Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano

DATE: Wednesday, 17 January 2018

KICKOFF: 4:00 CET

Kano Pillars will on this Wednesday return to their home ground, Sani Abacha Stadium to have a date with Nasarawa United in their quest to win the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League title.

The former Nigeria Professional Football League Champions almost run home with the maximum points in their first league  game of the season away to neighbors, Katsina United but a last gasp penalty by Destiny Ashadi shattered their dreams.

On the other hand, Nasarawa United lost at home to the Champions, Plateau United by a goal to nil at the Lafia City Stadium in a match marred by fans violence.

This fixture had metamorphose from being just an ordinary Football to a classic affairs considering the Solid Miners recent successes against the Nigerian giant.

In recent times, Nasarawa United is one of the very few teams to have come and picked the maximum points in Kano. The other teams being Enyimba and Akwa United.

The Sai Masu Gida would want to use this fixture as a perfect opportunity to pay the Solid Miners back in their own coin.

TEAMS:

KANO PILLARS:

Against Katsina United, Pillars were excellent and showed some Championship winning stuffs with some eye catching performance.

In the absence of the club legend, Rabiu Ali, Ibrahim Alhassan has step in with some eye catching display, his wonder goal from a 30 yard out against Katsina United at the weekend defined how important the home Boy is to the team.

Upfront, Nwagua Nyima and Junior Lokosa's good understanding is something the club have been craving for a very long time.

The pair, who arrived during the 2016/2017 NPFL mid-season transfer window from Lobi Stars and First Bank respectively combined to scored more than half of the club's total goals in the previous campaign and will prove vital to Pillars hope of reclaiming the league title once more this season.

PLAYERS MISSING: Pillars are currently without three of her first team members, Rabiu Ali,  Steven Eze and Ifeanyi Nweke. Both gentlemen are representing the Country at this year's CHAN.

SUSPENSION: Victor Denis is suspended for this match after he was sent off against Katsina United at the weekend.

NASARAWA UNITED

Nasarawa United will look to bounce back from their home defeat against the champions at the weekend.

Raphael Ayagwa scored an 87 minutes goal that broke the hearts of the fans and leads to serious violence.

The team is still yet to recover from the departure of Philip Auta, Adamu Hassan and Abdurrahman Bashir to Yobe Stars, Kano Pillars and Enyimba International respectively.

However, United signed some decent players including former Pillars winger, Kabiru Balogun and if they get to use to each other, the team will go places.

With Kabiru Dogo at the helm of the affairs of the Lafia based side, I think they're in the safest hand.

HEAD TO HEAD

On Sunday, 23rd August 2015 Nasarawa United stunned Pillars by two goals to one, becoming only the second side in over a decade to record a maximum points in Kano.

Away from that, this same fixture last season ended in a 1-1 draw with the Solid Miners recorded the maximum number of points in the returned leg with a one nil win.
