NPFL MD6: Junior Lokosa's Quick Fire Strikes Down Plateau United

By Isma'eel Abba Tangalashi

Kano Pillars produced a masterclass performance to beat high flying defending Champions of the league, Plateau United two nil in their week six fixture of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League decided at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Coach Ibrahim Musa named an unchanged line up from the side that played a barren draw against El Kanemi Warriors at the weekend.

Both sides started the game in a slow pace with no real chances created in the opening exchanges.

But as the clock keeps tickling, things begin to take shape when Nwagua Nyima squeezed through Golbe and Jimmy but saw his effort well of target.

The hosts begin to find their rhythm with series of attacks from all cylinders through the attacking trio of Nyima, Lokosa and Alhassan plus the diligent supplies from Anaezemba, Jameel Muhammad and Sikiru Kamaal but were all kept at bay.

The Sai Masu Gida's efforts finally paid off at the 21st minutes mark when the precision master, Anaezemba put Lokosa through one on one with the goalkeeper and the league's top scorer made no mistake as he beat the helpless Okiemute Odah for the Pillars opener.

Lokosa completed his brace six minutes after scoring the first goal with a diving header from Chris Madaki's cross thereby becoming the first player to have score six goals in the opening six matches in the ongoing season.

The Lalong Boys came close to scoring when Raphael Ayagwa fired in a shot from a direct free kick but saw his effort few inches off the goal post.

At the beginning of the second half, Coach Boboye brought in Tosin Omoyele for injured Benjamin Turba, a change that immediately disorganized  the hosts with series of attacks from the Tin City side but couldn't beat the 'Mr reliable', David Obiazor.

The match ended with the score at two nil to the home side.

The win saw Pillars leapfrog from the 5th position to 3rd on the Log having ganered 11 points from six matches while Plateau United remain 2nd on the log with 12 points from same number of matches as Pillars.

Pillars will on Sunday host MFM FC of Lagos who also beat Wikki Tourists of Bauchi by two goals to one at the Soccer Temple while the Champions, Plateau United will hope to return to winning ways when they host Sunshine Stars of Akure at the New Jos Stadium on Sunday.
