Chairman of the Nigerian Referees appointment Committee and Board Member of the country's Football Federation, Alhaji Sharu Inuwa Rabiu Ahlan bemoaned the recent ouster of Nigerian representatives in this year's CAF Club competition.
The seasoned Football Football Administrator described it as heartbreaking by the fact that 3 of our 4 representatives, Akwa Utd, MFM FC and Plateau Utd failed to make it to the group stage of this year's CAF Confederation Cup.
According to the Galadima of Kwallon kafar Nigeria, the recent performance shows that our clubs are some meters behind in continental club football and believed we will soon catch up and bring back our lost glory in the continent.
"The ouster of our teams clearly shows we're some meters behind compare to the rest of the continent in terms of club Football but that does not mean we would not catch up.
"There was a time our clubs dominated club Football in Africa, Enyimba won the CAF Champions League back to back in 2004 and 2005.
"It's hard to believe but we've lost lots of ground in inter-club competitions.
"We can't keep dwelling on this kind of situations, Ahlan added.
The multi Award winning Football Administrator is of the opinion that everybody is a stakeholder but those saddled with the responsibility, including him must take action and sacrifice.
He believed that the sacrifices of today will benefit the growth of Nigeria's football in the near future.
"We must reinvest our money, energy and commitment for the growth of our league.
"It will take time, maybe 3 or 4 years but real action must be taken.
It could be recalled that only Enyimba International FC of Aba made it to the group stages of this year's CAF Confederation Cup. Plateau Utd, MFM FC and Akwa Utd were all eliminated from the competition.
